Founded in 1976, by Sunil Bharti Mittal, Bharti has grown from being a manufacturer of bicycle parts to one of the largest and most widely recognized business groups from India. Bharti started its telecom business by launching mobile services with the brand name Airtel in Delhi (India) in 1995. Since then, there has been no looking back. Bharti Airtel, the group’s flagship company, has since emerged as one of the top telecom companies in the world and is amongst the top three wireless operators in the world. Bharti Airtel has operations in 17 countries across Asia and Africa – India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Congo Brazzaville, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
Over the past few years, Bharti has diversified into emerging business areas in the fast expanding Indian economy. The group offers – financial services across India and also serves customers through its processed foods business. The group has growing interests in other areas such as data centres, real estate, space communications, manufacturing and distribution of telecom / IT products.

Recently, the successful merger of OneWeb and Eutelsat created the Eutelsat Group, the world’s first GEO-LEO satellite operator with Bharti as its largest shareholder. The company with its LEO constellation of more than 600 satellites in orbit is delivering broadband around the world.
Bharti has a strong conviction in giving back to society. Through its philanthropic arm, Bharti Foundation, is providing free quality education to thousands of underprivileged children in rural areas with a focus on girl child. The Foundation is engaged in building excellence in learning at primary, elementary, secondary and tertiary levels. It has built lasting impressions in the lives of nearly 3 million children since inception along with 1.5 lakh+ teachers and 5.5 million+ community members. The Foundation’s three key programs at school level are Satya Bharti Schools, Quality Support Program (QSP) and QSP at Scale in addition to higher education initiatives. In response to the government’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Foundation initiated Satya Bharti Abhiyan from 2014 to 2021 which benefitted over 2 lakh beneficiaries by improving sanitation conditions in the districts of Punjab.
